FITNESSWORX CLASSES FOR SCHOOL AGE KIDS…

Up until 8/9 years of age it’s integral that kids learn ALL fundamental movement skills before sport specific skills are introduced, and include the ABCs of athleticism – Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed. At this stage it’s essential they develop multiple skill sets, and we do this in a fun and challenging, well structured environment.

From 9-13 years of age motor coordination is important. Children need to refine their fundamental movement skills and general sports skills should be learned too. It is also important to develop Strength, Endurance and Flexibility at this age. It should still be more about practicing skills (in a fun way of course!) at this age than competing.

REMEMBER – an early active start enhances the development of brain function, coordination, social skills, gross motor skills, emotions, and imagination. It also helps children build confidence, develop posture and balance, build strong bones and muscles, achieve a healthy weight, reduce stress, sleep well, move skillfully, and enjoy being active.

Fitnessworx Circus (5-8 & 9-13yrs)

Our circus classes cover a range of exciting circus elements including hand and body manipulation. Body Manipulation covers a lot of content similar to that of a gymnastics class with some extras – rolls, shapes, holds, intro to acrobatics, bar work, peddal-gos, intro to stilts, partner balances and more. Our Fitnessworx studio has its own trapeze and swing rope too! Body Manipulation is brilliant for developing core strength, agility, stability, flexibility, balance to name a few. Hand Manipulation includes activities such as juggling (balls, rings, scarves and clubs), hoops, spinning plates, diablos, poi and ribbons. It is great for the development of hand eye coordination, rhythm, concentration, memory and more. This is a very popular class.

Fitnessworx Balls Balls Balls (5-8 & 9-13yrs)

Now that we know that specialising in one sport early is NOT the way to go – Fitnessworx Balls Balls Balls provides an awesome alternative! This class is full of fun, interactive activities that will allow the kids to explore and experience what it’s like to handle different balls. From soccer balls, footballs and basketballs to tennis balls, soft golf balls and even ping pong balls the kids will learn to kick, throw, catch, aim, strike, field, bowl and dribble their way through fun and engaging challenges, games, activities and drills! The kids learn the fundamental movement skills correctly, and become more physically competent and confident. By doing it the right way NOW, and a broad range of fundamental movement and sport skills associated with ball sports, they will excel when it comes time to ‘specialise’ and apply these skills to a specific sport (when they are developmentally ready and physically literate, of course!).

Fitnessworx Fitness Training – cardio & strength (5-8 & 9-13yrs)

Think Bootcamp is just for the adults? Wrong, it’s much more fun than that! This program will offer the kids a variety of fun, challenging and very high energy activities. I know it sounds fun – but don’t get us wrong, it is pretty challenging too! The classes incorporate a kids beep and fitness test, obstacle courses, exercise stations, some general martial arts, circuits and team building activities too. This class is excellent for building strength, speed, endurance, agility and balance. If your child is currently playing a team sport (or doing triathlons or athletics), this will definitely improve their performance in the before mentioned areas of athleticism.

Fitnessworx Dance & Movement (5-8 & 9-13yrs)

This class provides a great way to get active and have fun through movement to music. This class is quite different from a traditional dance school class and there are no examinations or making of costumes for concerts. The focus is on dance play and the kids will get a chance to explore the amazing world of dance and it’s multitude of themes; latin, cheerleading, hip hop, funk, jazz (to name but a few!) as well as some cool new street styles such as Body Beat! It is a fun, engaging, all-inclusive and supportive class that is designed to cater to a variety of skill levels. If you love music and love to move – this is a great class to choose for getting active! The kids always do a small mini performance during the final class of the term so you get a chance to see some of the wonderful routines they have created. A fabulous class for improving balance, agility, flexibility, timing, confidence, creativity, rhythm, coordination and core strength to name a few!

Fitnessworx Parkour (5-8 & 9-13yrs)

Parkour (pronounced ‘par-koor’) is a physical discipline of French origin in which participants attempt to pass obstacles in a smooth and rapid manner. Parkour is said to be the art of moving (from A to B), consisting of uninterrupted forward motion over, under, around and through obstacles (both man-made and natural) in the environment. Such movement may come in the form of running, jumping, climbing and crawling. The goal of parkour is to be able to adapt one’s movement to any given situation so that any obstacle can be overcome with the human body’s abilities.

Whether you’ve heard of Parkour or not, we think you’ll love this program that teaches the concepts of moving within your environment with speed and efficiency whilst overcoming barriers and obstacles safely. You may have seen examples of Parkour on Music Videos’, commercials or even YouTube and when a well-trained practitioner performs parkour it looks amazing. Through a series of fun challenges and activities (both individual and group based), kids will learn the basics of Parkour.

Fitnessworx Yoga (5-13yrs)

Fitnessworx Yoga is a fun and innovative program designed to improve strength and flexibility, and explore different ways in which the body can move.  Physical activity that also calms the mind, and improves self esteem.  Yoga is offered at school-age only.

NEW Fitnessworx Multi Sports Skills (5-8yrs)

Fitnessworx Multi Sports Skills is a great way to learn the skills required for a range of different sports in a fun and engaging way. So many sports are covered from Basketball to Football, Soccer to Cricket, Tennis and more! It’s an excellent class for developing sporting and fundamental movement skills, yet it’s still so much fun at the same time! A great program for improving a child’s physical development. Multi Sports Skills is being offered to our 3-5yr olds and our 5-8yr olds.

NEW Fitnessworx Teen Fit (13-18yrs)

Fitnessworx Teen Fit (Cardio & Strength) is a great program for older students. Variety is the key so there will be a different style of workout each week combining the best of cardiovascular, resistance and mind/body classes. A great small group training session that will improve overall fitness – perfect if you participate in a competetive sport and are wanting to improve your fitness levels, but just as perfect for those that don’t enjoy sports and are looking for an alternative way to be fit and active!  The benefits of personal training without the cost.

Regular exercise is important to teenagers because it helps maintain their physical and mental health. Teens should strive for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily, aiming to spend less time being sedentary and more time being active. If teenagers find physical activities they enjoy, they are more likely to exercise on a regular basis and continue exercising into adulthood.
